From the match director
MASTER DEFENDER is a scenario-based tactical performance shooting competition centered on defensive problem-solving. Competitors must assess each mission and correctly perform required tactical elements while balancing tactics, accuracy, and speed.
TACTICAL SCORING
Each tactical element has a predetermined, written, and observable standard applied equally to every competitor. Scoring is not based on an RO’s opinion or personal tactical preference.
- Completed correctly: 0 seconds
- Attempted but performed incorrectly: +15 seconds
- Failure to Complete, including an omitted tactical element or DNF: +60 seconds
Each failed tactical element is scored separately. Multiple failures may result in multiple penalties. Competitors will be told what general abilities are evaluated but may be required to determine the correct tactical response themselves.
SCORING
MASTER DEFENDER uses Time Plus scoring.
Final Adjusted Time = Raw Time + Accuracy Penalties + Tactical/Procedural Penalties.
Accuracy Penalties
- Inner Center Zone: 0 seconds
- Center Zone: +1 second
- Outer Zone: +3 seconds
- Miss: +5 seconds
Other non-tactical procedural violations receive a +10-second penalty.
The lowest total Final Adjusted Time wins. Ties are resolved by the fewest tactical/procedural penalties, fewest misses, lowest accuracy-penalty time, lowest raw time, and then a tie-breaker drill if necessary.
ROs may not add requirements or issue penalties for conduct not identified in the approved mission criteria. Disputes will be reviewed against the written criteria, with the Match Director making the final decision. Serious safety violations may result in disqualification.
Don’t just shoot. Work the problem.
