This two-day competition class focuses on applying sound pistol fundamentals to practical shooting competition. We will identify performance patterns, isolate areas for improvement, and build those skills through focused drills, movement work, and practical shooting scenarios.
Shooting Fundamentals
Students will refine the fundamentals that drive consistent performance, including:
- Posture and body position
- Grip and recoil management
- Trigger control
- Target-focused shooting
- Sight/target acquisition
- Efficient transitions
- Movement Fundamentals
Students will develop more efficient movement and learn how to integrate shooting with movement, including:
- Efficient entries and exits
- Shooting on the move
- Maintaining balance and gun control while moving
- Getting the gun up and ready sooner
- Building efficient movement into stage execution
- Stage Strategy
Students will learn to recognize where their individual strengths can be used to successfully attack a stage while identifying weaknesses that may create unnecessary risk. We will explore practical strategies for managing those weaknesses and making better decisions under the demands of competition.
Training Format
Each day will begin with a cold stage, where the class shoots a field course without prior repetitions. This gives us an opportunity to establish a baseline and identify individual patterns and areas for improvement.
From there, we will move into David Wampler's approach to fundamental skill development through focused drills and line exercises. We will then progress into movement work and increasingly complex practical shooting e
