The Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club was formed by a few local citizens shortly after World War II in October 1947. The newly-formed club was named "The LA Rifle Association."

The members of LASC are dedicated and committed to providing a safe location and safe opportunities to enjoy shooting sports in a variety of shooting disciplines our members enjoy.

As Los Alamos National Laboratory grew after the war, the population of the town grew as well and there was a need to provide a safe place for organized sporting activities. The non-profit organization continued to grow and thrive from a small group that used an old building in the downtown area to an outdoor range on Barranca Mesa to our present Rendija Canyon location in the early 1960's.

The format of the Club continues to be a single organization with several "sections", each related to a particular area of interest. A Board of Directors is elected by the membership to oversee Club operations, provide improvements, approve private users, and interface with the community and NNSA/DOE as our landlord.

The various section chairs are approved by and report to the Board of Directors.

We believe that properly conducted firearms and archery training, practice, and competition improves not only our skills, but our character and our sense of responsibility for the safety and strength of our community. We work together to provide and continually improve safe shooting venues for handgun, shotgun, rifles and archery for our members and their families, our guests, and local law enforcement.
